Bristol Braillists: Perk up your Perkins
Thursday 28th September @ 13:00 - Friday 29th September @ 14:00
Do you have a Perkins Brailler that could do with a bit of TLC?
Are you interested in other mechanical Braille writing machines?
If so, this is the event for you.
Called Perk up your Perkins, it will be an opportunity to explore a small exhibition of historic Braille writing devices and get your Perkins cleaned and serviced by Alan Thorpe, an experienced mechanic.
The event is being organised by the Braillists, a group of visually impaired people who support and encourage the use of Braille and other tactile media, in partnership with Bristol Braille Technology, developers of the Canute multi-line Braille e-reader.
It will be held at the RNIB, 10 Stillhouse Lane, Bedminster, Bristol, BS3 4EB on the following dates:
Thursday 28 September, from 1pm to 4.30pm and
Friday 29 September, from 10am to 2pm.
Please note that a basic Perkins clean and service will cost £25. If more extensive work is needed you will need to negotiate a price with Alan and send your Perkins to him for repair.
There is no charge for visiting the exhibition.
There will also be a Braillists meeting on the Friday evening at a different location. This is open to anyone who wants to attend. At the meeting Alan Thorp will talk about what’s inside your Perkins and how it works.
