Whilst our formal Friday calls have come to an end, we appreciate that, for many people, the world is still very different to how it was 6 months ago. If you’re still adjusting to the new normal, please feel free to join this informal call to put the world to rights with a member of the Braillists team and other attendees.

Book Club

8th April 2021,
18:00 - 19:00

Is the only reason you never judge a book by its cover because you can’t read the cover in the first place? With three rooms — Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced — the Book Club is a welcoming group who meet every week to answer each other’s questions regarding reading using refreshable braille and to practice reading amongst friends.

We are currently reading Kensuke’s Kingdom, by Michael Morpurgo. It can be found in the “Teens” folder on the RNIB Orbit Reader SD card in both grade 1 and grade 2.

This week we will read chapter 7.

Our New Braille Clinic

13th April 2021,
19:30 - 20:30

Have you read a sign in braille, but don’t know what it means? Have you needed to write a sign in braille, but don’t know which dots to use? Are you struggling to tell one braille sign from another?

We’ll be able to help you with all these problems and more in our new Braille Clinic: an opportunity to talk to our in-house braille experts and have your braille questions answered.

No registration is required, and the clinic is open to beginners and advanced braillists alike.

As well as the braille code itself, we also invite questions on braille equipment, technology, paper and other consumables, reading material and anything else related to braille. If we can’t answer your question straight away, we’ll try to find an expert who can follow up with you afterwards.

Our Braille Clinics will not be recorded, but if you can’t make the session and you have a particular question you’d like answering, you’re welcome to email it to help@braillists.org and we’ll forward it to the appropriate person.

Which Braille Display Is Best?

20th April 2021,
19:30 - 20:30

Following the overwhelming success of our recent series of Masterclasses, we are delighted to announce that we are launching a second series.

To launch this, we are delighted to be joined by renowned braille display expert Jackie Brown. Jackie is a freelance writer, regular reviewer of braille technology, and author of “Braille ON Display” (published by Mosen Consulting), a comprehensive comparison of braile displays and guide to choosing the right one.

Jackie will talk us through the process of choosing a braille display. She will outline which factors to consider and why, and the key features of the braille displays which are currently on the market. If you’ve ever wondered “Which braille display is the best one?” you are sure to have the answer at the end of this session.

Please note: as this is the start of a new series of Masterclasses, our registration link has changed. If you wish to attend, you will need to register, even if you were previously registered for our Masterclasses.
